Tsumura again

It's always a pleasure to eat in Tsumura. This is another tried and tested place, which has been part of the family's comfort food list (see my previous post). Because of the heat (like summer all over again), I was in the mood for something cold and comforting... and got it. :P

Spicy Salmon Temaki
One of our favorites (Mom and I). :P

Spicy Tuna Temaki

Aoi (11 pieces special nigiri sushi)
Pronounced as "awi"

Beef Usuyaki
Rolled beef with mushrooms. This comes with sauce... perfect to have it with rice.

Tempura

Chawan mushi

Fresh fruits
This is given at the end of the meal. They ran out of watermelon but I was still happy nonetheless because banana is one of my favorite fruits.

If you're worried about the spicyness of the spicy sushi... don't worry, it's not too hot, which is perfectly fine with me. We also had the California Mango Maki and Squash Tempura which were awesome (my apologies for forgetting to take pics because of hunger). This was definitely the answer to my craving. ^_^

Father's Day dinner @ Century Seafood

We wanted to make Father's Day special, so we chose one of Dad's favorite restaurants, Century Seafood. The restaurant is always packed, either because of an event (mostly weddings) or it's just ordinary full house. It's a good thing we were able to reserve on time.

Soup with dried scallops

"Birthday noodles"
Sorry don't know the exact name.

Pigeon

Prawn Salad

Salted Fish Fried Rice

Stir fried scallops with broccoli

Steamed Suahe

Steamed Lapu-Lapu

Mochi balls
When I asked the name of this dessert, they gave me a foreign name. This is ube flavored with peanut butter filling. This is yummy!

We were 5 and all of these were wiped out. ^_^ This is one of the best Chinese restaurants in town. In all our visits, I can say everything is always good... taste, quality, flow of the place are consistent. I suggest to make a reservation at least 2-3 days in advance since it gets full.

Izakaya Kikufuji again

It was nice to have dinner again at Izakaya Kikufuji. It's something tried and tested... and most of all... comforting (See my previous post).

Uni (sea urchin) and Salmon Sashimi

Salmon sushi

Sorry I don't know what these are called.

Unagi (eel) sushi

Chicken and beef kushu yaki
One of our favorites (Dad and I). Both are really tender and tasty! ^_^

Tempura

Chicken Katsu
This isn't too oily or too rich... just right. Potato salad is yummy too. ;)

Again, everything we had were all wiped out. That's how good it is here. Mom and I had our favorite, their iced coffee. Although I can't take that much coffee at night, unless it's decaf... Oh well, there's always a next time. :D Quality and taste are consistent. Thank you to our enthusiastic and accommodating server, Cristy (I hope I spelled your name correctly). In case you're looking for Japanese items, there's a Japanese store right beside it called Choto shop. Try their ice cream balls... really yummy!

Food from home: Eclectic!

Since I started cooking, it has never stopped. Let me share some of these new items and again... these were taken at different times. ^_^

Mushroom Linguine with Truffle Cream

I love cream and truffle based pastas! Thank you to my Auntie Lou who gave me truffle oil when she learned I was making mushroom pasta. :D It's best to use fresh mushrooms... Believe me, it really makes a difference. I wanted to use Porcini mushrooms, but since they were not available, I used Button (white) and Shitake mushrooms. To be able to taste the truffle, drizzle the truffle oil on the pasta right before serving. ;)

Macaroni and cheese

Macaroni and cheese... or simply mac and cheese has been a favorite since I was little (that wasn't a long time ago). The last time I made mac and cheese was during high school days. I used 3 cheeses for this one: Medium Cheddar, Monterey Jack and Mozzarella. They say it's best to use Sharp Cheddar, but you may go with your preference. Based on my research, former American President, Thomas Jefferson invented mac and cheese. ^_^

     I'm going Japanese again...

Oyakodon
This is chicken and egg over rice. Although this is one of our household dishes, I wanted to try making it myself. The egg should have that silky texture. There's something about this dish that makes it comforting for the rainy weather. ;)

Chawanmushi
Aka egg custard dish. If you're looking for something light, healthy and tasty... this is the dish for you. Also good for the rainy weather.

Tonkatsu festival @ Saboten

Hooray for another Tonkatsu place in town! It was a pleasant surprise when we learned lunch will be in Saboten. Of course, how can we resist Tonkatsu? :P Most of us ordered the set which includes unlimited cabbage, rice, miso soup and pickles. Good deal, right? :D

The sauce, dressings and other condiments

Found this cute... Although I had a hard time removing the chopsticks from the lock. Good thing I was able to change my chopsticks. ^_^

Green tea

You grind the sesame seeds then pour the sauce.

Pork loin karaage

My brother, Dax has discovered a new favorite. ^_^

Cabbage and pickles
Try combining the 2 dressings with the cabbage... just awesome! ;)

Kids set
Love the plate, cup and utensils! ^_^

Clay Pot Loin Set
I want to try this next time. ^_^

Shrimp Fry Set

Mixed Set

Tenderloin Set
This was my order. It was tender and tasty.

Grated Radish Chicken Set
Sorry I was too busy eating and almost forgot to take a pic. :)) The blend of the radish, green onions and sauce was awesome!

Green tea ice cream with soybean sprinkles
This was creamy and had the right amount of green tea... love it! ^_^

Chocolate hazelnut cream cake
Chocoholics (like me) will love this!

Strawberry shortcake
One of my favorite cakes... yummy!

I was impressed they had a variety of both the meals and dessert. Since we all enjoyed our food, I'm 100% sure there will be another visit.

Cupcake craze @ Vanilla Cupcake Bakery

I had dinner with one of my high school friends, Dianne. After dinner, she admitted having a cupcake craving, so we head to Vanilla Cupcake Bakery. I would often pass by when I do errands, but never got a chance to check it out.

What a pretty sight! It made us want to try all of these. ^_^

When we asked which was the best seller, they said it was the Red Velvet. This was one of the few times I didn't go for the best seller because I wanted something different and Dianne wanted something Lemon based. Here were our choices...

For someone who's not into citrus desserts, I was pleasantly surprised with the Lemon Surprise, but I know Dianne loved this. The Luscious Caramel had caramel inside... Love it! :P

Both cupcakes are moist and creamy. The taste and consistency are as awesome as it looks. This is definitely a must-go-to cupcake place. Thank you Dianne for convincing me to try this out. ;)
