Birthday dinner @ Circles

For my birthday dinner, what better way to end it with one of the best buffets in town. Foodies will definitely be in awe with the numerous choices of Western and Asian items. Based on experience, we're never disappointed with the food in Shangri-la. This is one of those privilege meals because this only happens once in a blue moon and it's worth the calories. Believe me, no one will leave here hungry.

Dessert
Personally, the best part of the buffet is the Chocolate fountain. :D

Their ice cream is awesome!

Iced tea buffet

To my surprise, the servers sang Happy Birthday. Hmmm... I wonder who was responsible for that surprise... Thank you Circles for the yummy cake!

Smooth and creamy Morelli's gelato

I celebrated my birthday last Tuesday. As a birthday treat, it was cheat day for me so I couldn't wait to eat as I please. (Yey!) I was craving for fast food and ice cream. Of course I made sure I got my wish. The timing was perfect because Morelli's gelato is already open and was anxious to try it since it was cheat day.* After a hearty and comforting lunch, I head to Morelli's.

Looking at these mouth watering flavors makes you want to have a little of each. Well... maybe some, not little.

Being a chocoholic, I tried Chocolate and Chocnut which were really yummy! I ended up choosing the former. I love how it's smooth and creamy! Can't wait to try more flavors next time.

Batayaki feast

Batayaki is another Japanese method of cooking wherein each one will cook their meal. Although it's similar to Yakiniku, food is cooked in an iron skillet. Also, this comes with batayaki sauce. Our version is made of soy sauce, radish, green onions and mustard. I don't remember the last time we had batayaki at home... maybe 2 or 3 years ago... but as you can see, it's not very often.

The setting
(Best to have it outdoors.)

The vegetables
Onions and garlic

Zucchini

Oyster mushrooms

Meat and seafood
Chicken and shrimp

Scallops and Cod

Steak

The condiments for the sauce are radish and green onions. Butter is used for cooking.

We start by cooking the onions and garlic with butter and oil.
(Once these are cooked, believe me these are yummy!)

I was too excited and hungry to take shots cooking the food... I just got the before and after looks.

Just keep in mind to put salt and pepper in the meat, seafood and vegetables for flavoring. You may also use togarashi. to have a little kick.* Of course, this is best eaten with rice for a satisfying meal.

Western food from home

I'll be going Western this time... mostly Italian and American. Mom and Dad told me they were in the US and Europe when I was in Mom's tummy. They said one of the owners of one of their favorite restaurants in Italy always applauded Mom when she finished her meal, which was usually pasta. My family is divided when it comes to food preference, the boys go for Asian food and the girls go for Western food. Nonetheless, it's fulfilling to know the works in our kitchen are very much appreciated by everyone.

Salad
-Our version is composed of Romaine lettuce, tomato, cheese cubes. Dressing may vary. Sometimes we add, cranberries and walnuts too.

Cheesy garlic bread

Roasted vegetables
-Zucchini, Red Pepper, Eggplant, Garlic and Onions in olive oil and spices.

Tuna spaghetti
-Got this recipe from my friend, Gypsy. Here I replaced the cream with plain yogurt for a healthier alternative.

Spaghetti with sausage & eggplant

Spaghetti Aglio Olio
-Spaghetti cooked in olive oil, garlic and chili flakes.

Spaghetti and meatballs

Smoked salmon pasta
-Cooked with butter, cream, garlic, onions, parsley and caviar (the cheapest one) for garnish.

Pesto baked chicken

I also featured Bruschetta and Pesto in my previous posts. Now let's go to dessert...

Mom's Sour Cream Walnut Coffee Cake...

and here's a slice.

Mango Cobbler
-This is originally Peach Cobbler. After seeing the recipe, it reminded me of the mango cobbler in Cookbook Kitchen.

Brownies with white chocolate

There's list of recipes for trial which gets longer and longer. Not to worry... I'll be sharing more kitchen experiments in the future. In the mean time... Happy eating!
